TEACHER: The can is being chased by the dog
STUDENTS: No! The dog is being chased by the cat.
(In the pictures, the dog really is being chased by the cat!)
If the true/false games is done in writing, then the teacher might write a number of
sentences on the board and ask the student to copy the correct ones and to correct
and then copy the incorrect ones.
Once this version of the activity has been done, each student can write a number of
sentences making some true and some false. The student then read out each others
sentences if they are true.
Memory game
Another well established game which can transform a mechanical exercise into real
communication is the memory game. The teacher stands with his or her back to the
picture and tries to describe every think in it. The students correct the teacher
whenever he or she makes a mistake, a source of great satisfaction to the students.
Once the students have understood the games they can try it out in pairs or groups for
themselves with one of then (or possibly two) trying to describe the picture from
memory.
Hide and seek
Prepositions can be practiced with the game of hide and seek. One student imagines
that he or she is a mouse and is hiding somewhere in the picture. The other students
try to find out where the mouse is hiding.
STUDENT A: Are your in the old man's pocket
STUDENT MOUSE:: No.
STUDENT B: Are you behind the tree in the park
STUDENT MOUSE: No.
