Operational safety<br />
requirements<br />
Operational safety requirements governing customer operations in <strong>Sea</strong><br />
<strong>Launch</strong> facilities are defined in chapter 4 of the <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong> Safety<br />
Regulations Manual, Boeing document D688-10024-1. These are the requirements<br />
to ensure safety of personnel and equipment in preparing and<br />
launching the spacecraft.<br />
The customer responsibilities for activities that take place in <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong><br />
facilities and on <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong> vessels are:<br />
• Coordinate all customer activities with <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong> operations<br />
and safety functions.<br />
• Identify all hazardous spacecraft processing operations anticipated<br />
in <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong> facilities and vessels.<br />
• Develop customer- and spacecraft-unique procedures.<br />
• Train personnel.<br />
• Provide and maintain all unique personnel protection equipment<br />
required to support spacecraft operations independent of or in addition<br />
to normal facility and vessel operations.<br />
• Ensure that requested <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong>−provided personnel protective<br />
equipment and services are identified in the applicable interface<br />
requirements document and spacecraft campaign document.<br />
• Provide a safety contact within the processing team who will be<br />
part of the safety organization at Home Port and on board the vessels.<br />
<strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong> will monitor safety during customer highly hazardous operations<br />
in the <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong> facility.<br />
Safety training<br />
Customer personnel will be skilled in spacecraft processing operations<br />
conducted in <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong> facilities and vessels.<br />
Customer personnel working with <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong> equipment in <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong><br />
facilities are required to complete orientations in equipment familiarity,<br />
emergency procedures, and facility unique constraints.<br />
Customer personnel needed for operations on board <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Launch</strong> vessels<br />
will be provided specialized safety training for operations and emergency<br />
procedures unique to the ship and maritime environment.<br />
