4. Study environment in Mercer and Lander
Students in both Mercer Hall and Lander Hall are very nice and hard working.
Lander Hall is larger than Mercer Hall that more students are living there. So you can
make many good friends if you are active. Mercer Hall is quieter that provide a really
good environment to study. At night, besides study, students like to chat with others.
5. Special things we found in the hall
The first day we lived the hall, we felt really amazing that both boys and girls
are living in the same floor. Yes, it is not kidding, it is true. We felt not convenient at
the first few days but got used of it soon. There are 2 restrooms for each floor. Of
course one is for boys and the other is for girls. We need key to open the door, so we
no need to worry that boys enter the wrong restroom. You have to pay attention to the
quiet hour. Different dorm or even different floors have different quiet hour.
Generally, the quiet hour is: Sunday-Thursday 9pm to 10 am, Friday-Saturday 1am-
10am. So don’t make big noise during the quiet hour otherwise you may annoy your
neighbor and get warning from your RA (Residence Adviser).
For the dorms of UW, students can bring their friends to stay overnight
without ask for permission from RA, they just need to get their permission from
roommate and no need to pay. This cannot be imagined in CU.
6. What to eat in the hall?
As the kitchenette is not well equipped in both Mercer Hall and Lander Hall,
so we usually had our dinner in the canteen in Terry. It is buffet and cost USD$7.25
each entry. The food there is ok with some choices. The pasta there is quite good.
