University Environment & Facilities
Facilities in University of Washington --- Teresa
We have arrived in one of Seattle’s oldest, most loved and diverse
communities. It boasts tree-lined boulevards and turn-of-the-century mansions. Both
exist side-by-side with the state-of-art development centers and one of the nation’s
premier institutions of higher education- the University of Washington. In the
following parts, I would like to share three most interesting and useful facilities of the
University of Washington with you.
The first facilities offered by the University of Washington are the museums.
In our trip, we have visited two museums, that we regarded as useful and valuable
experiences and, definitely, we had the opportunities to widen our horizon and
experienced the culture of America as well as Seattle. The Burke Museum is the state
museum of natural and cultural history. It used an interesting and interactive way to
explain to us not only the formation of Seattle and Washington but also the history
and lifestyles of the ancient people living in Seattle. Apart from the Burke Museum,
we also had the chance to visit the Henry Art Gallery, the art museum of the
University of Washington. The Henry holds a national reputation as the leading
museum of modern and contemporary art in the Northwest. It also plays an important
role in the cultural life of the region as multi-faceted cultural resources showcasing
the art of our time. We totally impressed by the Display of “Gene (sis)” which
channeled us to think of the social, emotional and ethical implications of gene (sis) to
our world via more than fifty works by renowned and emerging contemporary artists.
Secondly, there are two unique commercial districts, the “Ave” and the village,
which cater to the needs of more than 50, 000 students and staff, in addition to a base
population of 35, 000. The districts provide residents and us with a kaleidoscope of
continental shopping, dining and entertainment.
Last but not the least, we always enjoyed our meals in the University Food
Services restaurant, café, espresso bar or convenience store. The Husky Den and the
Terry Café were the places that we always had our meals. The Husky Den features
