Besides, in U-Dub, I met many other new people from various countries. I had
never thought that there were so many students from other parts of Asia were also
joining the same summer programme as me. I was surprised.
Among all activities in the programme, I enjoyed the visit to Pack Forest and
Mountain Rainier mostly! On the 15 th of July, three classes including mine went to
Pack Forest in the morning. To my mind, a forest is a place where many plants and
wild animals can be found. I love both of them and I anticipated the journey would be
great!
When we got there, I was attracted by the nice weather and tall green trees
together with big grasslands. After having our lunch, we started a short tour to explore
the forest. A staff there called Tom led us to enter it and introduced various kinds of
plants that we saw nearby when we walked along. The most wonderful thing was that
we could try out different kinds of fruits there, like blackberries and blueberries. Both
of them looked colourful and fresh though I didn’t try one. This was a new experience
to me since I had never joined any tour before that allows visitors to try out wild fruits
in forest. Actually, I did go to another forest when I was very young. It was located in
Malaysia and it was a forest with different sorts of fruits, like pineapples and durians.
My relatives lived there and owned a part of the forest. They harvested mature fruits
and sold to earn money. I think the most different thing between the two forests is that
the former is really natural containing uncountable plants, while the latter is a wellplanned
forest with fruit trees. People depend on the forest to live. Apart from this, the
weather of the former was warm and dry whereas that of the latter was very hot and
wet. This explains why the latter is suitable for planting tropical fruit trees.
After the exploration, we grouped ourselves to start playing games. Some went
hiking, some played ball games and still some others chatted with each other under
trees. To me, I joined my classmates and some others from another class to play
volleyball. The court was paved with wood powder as I believed and thus we could
take off our shoes and play there with out wearing shoes. The feeling was special as I
had never played ball game with bare foot. I enjoyed the sunshine and the teamwork
of both teams for about an hour.
