It is my first time to travel on the plane to another country. I was so excited. I
enjoyed attending lessons, going on the trips, going out for explorations and the most
important is that, I enjoyed living in UW, in Seattle. I learnt most during the daily
contacts and interviews with the local people. It is my experience that you may find
yourself very clumsy in expressing a simple idea. For example, in my last night there,
I locked out myself. I went to the next room to ask for help. I cannot remember I have
used how many words like ‘ I have locked the door and I have left my keys in the
room…’ to explain to him and at last, he just asked me, ‘ are you locked out?’ Yes,
it’s how they say it!
What is more is that it was a golden chance for me to establish friendship, not
only with my groupmates from Hong Kong, but also my classmates from Taiwan. For
our group from Hong Kong, we really have great time to experience the cooperation
and assistance between one and others. And for our class, it’s really an excellent time
to explore American culture in lessons as well as Taiwan culture through the contact
with my classmates. Of course, the joy we shared when we were getting together is
my beautiful memories that I will not forget!
This programme really broadened my horizons and helped to improve my
English. I really hope our college can continue to support her students in such kind of
meaningful activities. I am sure every participant will enjoy much in learning a
language in the most natural context – in the country that everyone speaks that
language.
