Maximum energy control
A Compri HX4 intelligent controller from
PRIVA Building Intelligence has been installed
within Georgian premises at 10 Queen Square,
Bristol by Alpha Control Services. Queen
Square is fast becoming a popular business
address and No. 10 has benefited from a £1
.6M refurbishment investment delivering
some 1,530 m2 (17,000 sq ft) of office space
to the Bristol market. The HVAC services have
been designed to a high energy efficient specification
utilizing thermal wheel, face and
bypass damper control, electric re-heat, and
night purge.
Air conditioning for the refurbished building was
installed by JCW Air Conditioning and comprises
an air handling unit (AHU) supplying fresh air to
a Mitsubishi VRF (variable refrigerant flow) system,
plus a second AHU providing heated fresh
air to the common toilet areas.
New, enhanced Touch

last year has proved
so popular that the
company has now
added to the product
range with the
launch of three
enhanced touch
plates.
Touch-to-Enter and Touch-to-Exit are both
brushed stainless steel faceplates with a
green hand infill mounted into a standard,
single gang electrical housing. This makes
them suitable for either surface or flush
mounting in a wall mounted situation, and
their ability to operate through glass brings
important flexibility to many installations.
The entire touch plate is touch sensitive, and
the lightest of touches will activate the unit and
open the door.
The latest additions to the product range feature
an LED, providing a visual confirmation for
users with hearing difficulties that their touch
has activated the unit and, for those users who
have difficulties with sight, a built in sounder
with three delay soundings (0, 10 and 20 seconds)
provides great reassurance.
The Touch-for-Assistance product, which features
a blue disabled symbol on the touch plate,
has been similarly enhanced. This product is
The VRF system utilizes thermal wheel technology
to reclaim extract heat or cooling,
comparing the outside air temperature with
the demand of the supply air. The AHU serving
the toilet areas employs face and bypass
damper control in a similar manner, reclaiming
heat or cooling, dependent on the outside
air temperature and the requirement of
the supply air.
Night time purge on both AHUs capitalizes on
free cooling by purging the building of its
warm, stale air and replacing it with cool,
fresh air when it is unoccupied. The demand
for morning cooling is further supported by
an optimum start program on the cooling
only VRF air conditioner.
A cost effective solution to central monitoring
of the air conditioning services was
resolved by loading PRIVA TC Vision software
onto the Mitsubishi PC. TC Vision is the PC
application for local and remote control
comprising graphics, event and data logging,
energy and runtime tables, documentation, and
alarm message overview. This configuration
allows the user to interrogate both the VRF and
the AHUs from a single PC. Adjustments to time
schedules and temperature setpoints can be
carried out from one station, together with, for
example, monitoring of runtime hours, building
status and alarm reporting. Furthermore, with
the installation of a modem, the building also
has the facility to be monitored remotely.
When PRIVA Building Intelligence developed its
range of building controls, a major objective
was to enable interoperability with other manufacturers’
systems. This has been successfully
demonstrated by the ease with which the
Mitsubishi management PC has integrated
PRIVA’s TC Vision software.

designed to be used by less able members of
the community, where’ a touch’ can summon
assistance to enter or leave a building or fulfil
a task such as topping-up with fuel at a
filling station. In this case the built in
sounder can act as a local audible warning
that assistance is required and, again, the
LED provides visual re-assurance that help
has been summoned.
The products are all
designed to be used in
conjunction with a wide
range of access control
systems, and are the perfect
alternatives to pushbuttons
and other door
release mechanisms.
They are based around
Coastform’s ProxiTouch
‘fit and forget’ technology,
which is self calibrating,
has no moving parts
and requires no maintenance.
Coastform’s Managing Director Tim Ingersoll
believes these products will enjoy great sales
success, commenting:

Kidde Graviner the
chance to use Twyford
Bushboard!
Stevens Services Ltd based in Surrey, a recognised

worked in conjunction with the company on a

Vigilant go to Xstream
Vigilant who have built a reputation for delivering
sophisticated enterprise digital recording
solutions has introduced an entry level
DVR. To refer to Xstream as an entry level DVR
is perhaps however doing a serious disservice
to this high performance albeit competitively
priced DVR.
Xstream which has 16 camera inputs, delivers
up to 25 frames per second of high-quality video

to offer 16 channels of synchronised FM
