Kee Klamp wins case
in Woking for DDA
compliant 500 Series
Vimpex’s Fire-Cryer(r) multi-message
voice enhanced sounders are
being used by Odeon Cinemas
nationwide to ensure that members
of the public are not confused
by conventional alarm
sounders in the event of an evacuation.
Standard, Midi and Maxi Fire-
Cryers(r) have been installed by
Essex Electrical plc in 34 of Odeon’s
Cinema complexes throughout the
UK. The wide product range available
within the Fire-Cryer(r) family
Reading-based Kee Klamp Ltd is
helping Woking Magistrates Court
meet the requirements of the
Disability Discrimination Act
(DDA) and Building Regulations
Pt.M:2004 with its latest innovation
in tubular fitting design.
Fittings from the company’s specially
developed 500 Series have
been used to construct five new
handrailing structures at the main
entrance to the Court, ensuring
safe and easy access for all visitors.
By installing the handrailing, the
Magistrates Court is ensuring compliance
with the latest health,
safety and legislative guidelines.
Under the terms of the DDA, all
commercial and public building
owners are obliged to provide nondiscriminatory
balustrading and
handrailing on stairways and
ramps. Meanwhile, the Building
Regulations recommend an outside
diameter tube size for such installations
of between 40mm-
45mm. Improvements to
the key walkway points at
Woking Magistrates Court
have involved the installation
of over 35 linear
metres of new handrailing,
assembled using the
500 Series of fittings from
Kee Klamp Ltd which satisfies
these demanding
specification criteria.
The new 500 Series of Kee
Klamp® fittings is specifically
designed to give a smooth
handrail with size 7 tube (outside
diameter 42.4mm). It is therefore
compatible with the DDA recommenaations,
unlike many other fitting
ranges currently on the market.
The new series of structures, which
extends up the steps to the
Magistrates Court, can thus provide
optimum safety, guidance and
accessibility for all users.
The new fittings can also be powder
coated in a choice of RAL
colours to meet the visibility and
“not cold to the touch” requirements
of the DDA. At Woking
Magistrates Court, they are finished
in a light ivory colour which
gives an attractive appearance and
benefits the sight-impaired Court
visitor.
The new Kee Klamp® 500 Series
incorporates a total of nine new fittings
and is supplied with versatility,
ease and speed of installation in
mind. Reader Reply No.: 84020
