Surrey with the

Farnham Town Council have recently completed
an update programme of their CCTV
cameras in Farnham and as a
result are using Vicon’s
Surveyor mini domes
throughout the
town centre.
The town centre
i n c l u d e s
Georgian
frontages and
the aesthetics
are guarded
jealously. The
client has therefore
benefited from the
fact that the Vicon
domes are only five
inches across and
unobtrusive.
The recent installation
is significant in
that the client has been
employing Vicon domes for
10 years and usage has
evolved with the functionality
of the cameras.
Alec Herd, CCTV Coordinator with
Surrey Police who operate the CCTV system
in partnership with Farnham Town Council,
said: “There are features in the Vicon domes
that we appreciate such as the ability to set

access to a door for up to 1500
users, using a simple electronic
key fob. Each key fob contains a
unique code that cannot be
copied or changed. When a key is
presented to the reader, access is
allowed if the key code matches
the same code programmed in the
reader.
KeySOLVE is battery powered, with
a typical 5-year life, providing a
cost-effective and easy to install
access control solution for single
doors, which can be implemented
building-wide. As building use
changes, additional doors can be
easily added and programmed for
all existing users. Different levels
cameras from whichever
keyboard you happen
to be at. It’s possible to
go into each camera’s
memory and reprogramme
it, changing
say iris and shutter

Two types of reader
are available, the RL
Series Rim Lock and
the CR Series
Controller Reader. The
rim lock is a self-contained
battery powered
unit that includes
the locking mechanism,
reader and controller. It provides
high quality access control in
a package that can be installed in
less than one hour. Installation is as
a standard rim lock and the unit
will retrofit onto existing mechanical
key based installations. The rim
lock’s in-built buttons and display,
together with the key reader, are
used for all set up and key administration
functions. Where it is
impractical to fit the rim lock the
benefits of keySOLVE can be delivered
by the installation of the CR
controller reader. This device holds
all the intelligence and flexibility
of the keySOLVE system within a
stand-alone control unit which
allows control of a conventional
electric door release or a magnetic
lock.

Abloy® to become
exclusive Eff Eff UK
distributor
Abloy Security has announced
that with immediate effect it is to
become the exclusive UK distributor
for all Eff Eff electric locks
and locking systems manufactured
in Germany by its sister
company, ASSA ABLOY
SicnPrhpltstprhnik GmbH. The Eff
Eff product range includes electric
strikes, motor bolts, magnets,
door control systems and arrester
devices, designed for use with
timber, metal, glass and plastic
speeds or
implementing
privacy
zones.”
He continued:
“The
Vicon domes are logical units
which almost think for you. The
facility where you can “teach” a
dome to perform a certain tour is
valuable. It’s also useful to be
able to mix pre-sets with timeouts
so that after a given period a
dome that has performed a tour
will revert to a predetermined
location.”
Farnham Town first began using Vicon
17-inch domes in 1995. They added
four Surveyor 99 units in 2000 and in
order to take advantage of the very latest
technology have now replaced all of the
domes with VFT2000s.
The installation was performed by Sevenoaksbased
DGH Security Installations who have particular
strengths in the retail sector and education.
Alec Herd added: “The CCTV system has made a
major contribution towards a dramatic reduction
in ram raids and most other forms of
crime.”
While images from Farnham are recorded digitally
in the town itself the application is completely
integrated with a neighbouring system at
Guilford where the monitoring is performed.
Vicon’s open protocols have allowed seamless
integration with a 32-channel matrix at Farnham
and in turn with the matrix manager in
Guildford. The Farnham system has BT fibre
optic wiring throughout.
Farnham Town forms part of Waverley Borough
Council which also covers Godalming and
Haslemere. It is envisaged that a similar installation
may be performed at Haslemere.

Abloy Security will be taking over
all distribution activities, with
stock being transferred to the company’s
warehouse in Watford and
technical, applications and on-site
support services becoming the
responsibility of Abloy’s centralised
and field based customer support
teams.
Managing Director of Abloy
Security, Robin Rice, explains that,

excellent job of supporting the various
EFF EFF products over many
years and we would like to thank
them for all their efforts and for
the professional and efficient manner
in which they have transferred
the business to Abloy Security”.
He added, “Although EFF EFF was
originally an independent manufacturer
it became part of the ASSA
Abloy Group in 2000 and we have
been steadily working to integrate
the EFF EFF product range fully
into the product offering of Abloy
Security in the UK”.
