Environmental Biotech
to hold UK Grease Summit
Following the success of Environmental
Biotech’s first UK Grease Summit, an educational
programme, highlighting the impact of
FOG (fats, oils and greases) on drainage infrastructures
and the environment, a second summit
will be held on 4th and 6th October 2005
at The Holiday Inn Brentwood, Essex.
The focus of the seminar will centre on the
causes and effects of FOG accumulation within
sewerage systems, with the key factors being
identified as location, regional and socio-economic
conditions, pre-treatment methods, attitudes
and disposal regulations.
It will take a look at grease separation technology,
treatments available for grease extraction,
grease trap design and pumping procedures,
unravelling the myths and setting the record
straight on grease trap design.
Delegates from across a range of industries,
including Thames Water, BAA, United Utilities,
Food Processing Faraday and representatives
Boosting business
This year Grundfos Pumps in the UK have
taken the leading position within the
Grundfos Group with the highest unit sales of
packaged pressure boosting sets in the world.
A result that is all the more surprising given
that they were ranked 25th in 1995.
There are various reasons for this, including an
increasing number of taller buildings, more condensed
living accommodation, unequal site
pressure and an increasing demand for high
water pressure requirements during industrial
processing - whilst we have seen mains pressure
decreasing to reduce leakage in the system.
Over the years Grundfos booster sets have continued
to develop and evolve and now provide
customers with a sophisticated range of pressure
boosting solutions that combine excellence
in engineering with their extremely reliable
range of pumps. Additionally, selecting variable
speed pump(s) for these sets will offer significant
energy savings over fixed speed alternatives.
2005 is also proving to be another record year
for booster sales as figures show an increase of
35% over the same period last year. This is a
testament to the product range, quality and the
overall reliability of the booster set range from
Grundfos.
from Anglia Water, have all attended the internationally
acclaimed one-day seminar.
Commenting on the usefulness of the seminar,
Debbie Caton, Retail Manager at BAA said: “It’s
a very good seminar. There was a lot to take
away and get the ball rolling at BAA, and implement
Best Management practice.”
Commenting on the opportunity afforded by the
seminar to share experiences with other delegates,
Jeff McDowell, Pre-treatment Co-ordinator
at the City of Fort Walton Beach added: “I
would highly recommend that others in the
environmental field consider attending future
summits to share and gain knowledge about this
problem.”
Aziz Tejpar, Managing Director of Environmental
Biotech UK explained: “The seminars have been
running outside the UK for just over 12 years
now and have been very successful for a plethora
of companies and local authorities. The aim
of the Grease Summit is to create a forum for
Wyboston Lakes, the largest privately-owned
training and conference centre in Europe, has
found a way to add drama and beauty to its
setting by installing a range of Otterbine
water fountains and aerators on its lake.
Based near St Neots, in Cambridgeshire,
Wyboston’s 350-acre site includes a hotel, conference
centre and 18-hole golf course. Leisure
services manager David Little explains the
thinking behind bringing in the Otterbines.
‘Wyboston is a busy, thriving operation and
we’re always looking to improve our offering to
customers in terms of the experience they have
when they come here. This includes enhancing
the aesthetics of the surroundings.
‘We work very closely with Otterbine’s UK distributor
Lely UK, in St Neots, who bring customers
and staff here for training and business
meetings. They were looking for the perfect
location to set up a range of Otterbine fountains
and aerators so they could show customers the
products in a picturesque working environment.
So it’s a joint venture, really - a permanent display
for Lely, and at the same time Wyboston
discussion and highlight the impact that fats,
oils and greases have on the environment and
bottom-line profitability.
We provide sound and realistic advice on key
drainage issues relevant to each delegate and
provide them with the background knowledge to
make an informed decision when it comes to
drain line management.”
Environmental Biotech UK 08702 406154, where
more information on the seminar can be
obtained. There is a summit fee of £150 plus VAT
per delegate.
Otterbine Fountains add
drama to lakes
and its visitors get the benefit of a beautiful
water display.”
The range of Otterbine fountains at the site
include a 15hp Polaris Giant Fountain - which
shoots a thick, powerful column of water up to
30ft high - two Concept 3 Gemini aerators,
which deliver a lovely trumpet spray, and a 3hp
Concept 3 Tristar aerator, which can reach 16ft
in height. Reader Reply No.: 84084
BT extend contract with
Steljes Managed Services
BT has extended its
contract with Steljes
Managed Services for
the supply, and support
of LCD projectors
throughout the
UK. The existing contract
which was due
to expire 31st March
2006 will now run on
a further two years to
2008. The extended
contract follows on
from the existing supply
agreement
between the companies, and was first implemented
in 1999. Steljes Managed Service operates
the most comprehensive rental fleet of
electronic presentation equipment in the UK
and as such is the market leader.
With the majority of their staff based in the UK,
BT is one of the UK’s largest employers. In 1999
BT made an astute business decision to hire LCD
projectors rather than purchase them, and in
doing so, availing themselves to best in class
product, minimising the true cost of ownership
and safeguarding themselves from obsolescence
issues. Steljes Managed Services provided BT
with an efficient, flexible and cost effective
alternative to a straight purchase of product.
BT ensured that the contract encompassed a set
known price, including insurance for loss and
damage, delivery and collection, and a guaranteed
delivery time.
Steljes Managed Services is proud to claim that
they have never had to refuse an order because
of availability issues. Steljes is accustomed to
working with its resellers to service the largest
and most demanding Blue Chip companies
throughout the UK. Reader Reply No.: 84146
