Fibreglass grating wins
gold at 2004 Olympic
In August 2004, the eyes of the
world were on Athens and the
Olympic Games Opening
Ceremony, which promised to be
history in the making.
A ten thousand square foot manmade
lake containing over two million
litres of water covered almost
the entire stadium floor. The show
started with a pyrotechnic comet shooting through the arena to ignite
the lake in the shape of the Olympic Rings.
The lake was constructed around a vast submerged platform, which
would enable the opening performers to appear to ‘walk on water’.
When the water drained away, it created the platform on which thousands
of performers and competitors would make their entrance and
mark the start of the Games.
With seventy-two thousand spectators in the stadium and an estimated
four billion people watching worldwide, there could be no room for
accidents or errors, and only one material met and exceeded specifications.
Essex based company Fibreglass Grating Ltd were delighted to
be contracted to supply the floor grating for this project.
New ‘business park’ bollard
from Bollards International
With glass being used as an architectural
feature to an ever greater extent in the
new buildings being built to create business
parks nationwide, Bollards International
has launched a new bollard designed
specifically for use in such environments.
Bollards International manufacturers a
range of polymer based bollards, railings
and street furniture which are now being
specified instead of the traditional cast iron
products by a growing number of architects,
development companies and local
authorities.
The first installation of the new silver painted polymer bollards has
been made at the business village (three buildings) being leased by
Fujitsu Services at Central Park in North East Manchester.
The original product specification called for a stainless-steel bollard
with two neoprene rings to protect the glass from accidental impact
damage. 1-lowever, discussions with Bollards International resulted in
the specification being changed to silver painted polymer as this
weathers far better than stainless steel, which can often go dull and
gain a brownish surface tinge. The manufacturer was also able to
demonstrate that a polymer bollard offers a greater impact resistance
than stainless steel. The final amendments to the specification saw the
inclusion of polyurethane protection rings, rather than those originally
specified as neoprene, for reasons of durability and longevity.
Bame Colvin, Managing Director of Bollards International, believes this
new bollard will have particular appeal in the business park environment,
saying:
“Visual impact is of great importance in the business park environment,
and our new silver-coated polymer bollard gives the same overall
impression of quality and design style without the drawbacks associated
with impact performance and long term weathering.”
The three buildings in the Fujitsu business village which are now protected
by the new bollards house Fujitsu staff working in the IT services
industry.
Heatrae Sadia’s Supreme
boiling water unit saves time
in busy workplaces
Supreme, Heatrae Sadia’s market leading
instant boiling water unit, is ideal for
busy workplaces with a constant need
for boiling water to make tea, coffee and
other hot drinks and snacks, such as
school staff rooms, factories, large
offices and call centres, prisons, fire stations
and hospitals.
Actually boiling enough water to meet the needs of everyone in the
workplace using a kettle can take up a huge amount of time. This can
infringe on a company’s productivity if employees are permitted to
make drinks throughout the day, as well as employees’ own personal
break time if they have allocated rest periods.
Boiling water units provide an immediate and constant supply of boiling
water for tea, coffee and other hot drinks and snacks, eliminating
the need for a kettle and saving vast amounts of time by providing
more boiling water than a kettle ever could.
Available in wall mounted or counter top versions, Heatrae Sadia’s
Supreme is permanently connected to the electricity and the cold
water supply. Compact, neat and modern in design, Supreme heats
water in an insulated storage vessel and features Intelliboil(tm), a
patented electronic temperature management system which regularly
brings water to boiling point in line with user demand.
Supreme is available in various sizes - the three most popular being
2.5 litre, 5.0 litre and 7.5 litre, sufficient for 15, 30 or 45 cups respectively
when the unit is full, and equating to 140, 155 and 170 cups per
hour. Catering sizes are also available, and two new larger capacity
Supreme units are being introduced to satisfy increased market
demands. The Supreme 310 and 560 offer capacities of 25 litres and
40 litres respectively, delivering 310 and 560 cups per hour.
The Supreme range is supported with a selection of accessories including
stainless steel drip trays designed to be inset into the work surface,
an integral seven day digital programmer, which allows Supreme to be
switched on and off on a daily basis for greater economy, and a water
filter system.
New V-Press 1160 Mill Sized
Baler from HSM
Recognising that space is at a premium, particularly
inside industrial and commercial
premises, HSM has now weather proofed
their newest baler for external operation.
The new V-Press 1160 produces a large millsized
bale ideal for recycling and improved
returns and is now suitable for exterior use.
An advantage of producing mill size bales is
that, because of the reduced transport costs and more economic handling,
this can result in a higher price being obtained from the processor
or recycler, or even directly from a mill itself, for the waste material.
Therefore, the capital cost of the new V-Press 1160 Baler, which
is very competitively priced, can be recouped that much quicker.
Alternatively, lease purchase and rental options will allow cost savings
to be made on a weekly / monthly basis. The new V-Press 1160 Baler
is weather proofed to IP55 and easy to operate thanks to features that
include: a large feed hopper at a convenient loading height, guide rails
in the chamber for insertion of the strapping tapes or wires from the
front of the machine, and simple selection of the torsion control.
