Surprisingly, however, a field survey <strong>of</strong> potential emigration plans revealed that <strong>IT</strong><br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essionals <strong>and</strong> students were relatively willing to emigrate. English-speaking countries<br />
(United Kingdom, Irel<strong>and</strong>, USA/Canada <strong>and</strong> Australia/New Zeal<strong>and</strong>) where clearly <strong>the</strong><br />
priority for <strong>IT</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. Potential émigrés are evidently well informed <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
opportunities that <strong>the</strong> globalisation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> economy <strong>of</strong>fers in <strong>the</strong>ir sector. It seems that <strong>the</strong><br />
opportunity to experience different environments <strong>and</strong> cultures, make pr<strong>of</strong>essional contacts <strong>and</strong><br />
gain an international overview is just as important for <strong>the</strong>m as for o<strong>the</strong>r pr<strong>of</strong>essions. In<br />
addition, as English is used universally in <strong>the</strong> sector, <strong>the</strong> language barrier is less significant for<br />
<strong>IT</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. Work abroad is most sought by <strong>IT</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals working in Czech branches<br />
<strong>of</strong> foreign companies, employees <strong>of</strong> large multinationals <strong>and</strong> employees (students) with<br />
experience abroad.<br />
Only a negligible proportion <strong>of</strong> potential <strong>IT</strong> emigrants (<strong>and</strong> future <strong>IT</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals) envisages<br />
permanent emigration. In view <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> know-how <strong>the</strong>y can acquire in advanced hi-tech<br />
sectors abroad, that could ultimately benefit <strong>the</strong> Czech Republic.<br />
