Biographies of Editors<br />
Avery Cohn received a Master’s of Environmental Science from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Yale</strong> School of<br />
Forestry & Environmental Studies in 2004. His master’s <strong>the</strong>sis, “Selling Coffee,<br />
Betting <strong>the</strong> Farm,” explored interactions between agro-biodiversity conservation<br />
initiatives, agriculture certification schemes, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> livelihoods of small farmers in<br />
El Salvador. As a consultant he has researched ecologically friendly <strong>and</strong> socially just<br />
soybean production in Brazil. He is currently a student in <strong>the</strong> Environmental Studies<br />
Doctoral Program at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> of Cali<strong>for</strong>nia, Santa Cruz.<br />
Jonathan Cook received a Master’s of Environmental Science from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Yale</strong> School of<br />
Forestry & Environmental Studies in 2004. His master’s <strong>the</strong>sis, “Networking Against<br />
Oil in <strong>the</strong> Ecuadorian Amazon,” analyzed <strong>the</strong> mechanics of a recent transnational<br />
environmental campaign. He is currently a Program Officer at World Wildlife Fund<br />
in Washington, DC, helping to manage several projects related to trade, agriculture,<br />
<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> environment. Previously, he worked <strong>for</strong> three years in <strong>the</strong> environmental<br />
community, <strong>and</strong> wrote <strong>for</strong> publications including Orion <strong>and</strong> OnEarth. He holds a<br />
B.A. in Environmental Studies from Harvard <strong>University</strong>.<br />
Margarita Fernández received a Master’s of Environmental Science from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Yale</strong><br />
School of Forestry & Environmental Studies in 2004. Her <strong>the</strong>sis work explored social<br />
networks <strong>and</strong> community-based management systems of urban agriculture in New<br />
York City <strong>and</strong> Havana, Cuba. Previously, she worked <strong>for</strong> five years on rural <strong>and</strong> urban<br />
agriculture <strong>and</strong> food security issues in Latin America <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> United States. She has<br />
worked as a researcher, small-scale farmer, <strong>and</strong> community organizer at NGOs in<br />
Costa Rica, Venezuela, Cuba, <strong>and</strong> New York. She is currently working in Laos,<br />
producing extension materials about shifting agriculture <strong>and</strong> natural resource<br />
management.<br />
Rebecca Reider received a Master’s of Environmental Management from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Yale</strong><br />
School of Forestry & Environmental Studies in 2005. She has worked as a volunteer<br />
on community agricultural projects in Guatemala, <strong>and</strong> as a student, has conducted<br />
research on behalf of an indigenous communities association in <strong>the</strong> Ecuadorian<br />
Amazon. She has also worked as an environmental educator <strong>and</strong> writer in <strong>the</strong> U.S.<br />
She holds a B.A. in History <strong>and</strong> Science from Harvard <strong>University</strong> <strong>and</strong> is currently a<br />
Fulbright Scholar in New Zeal<strong>and</strong>.<br />
