A.2.6 Secur<strong>in</strong>g Access to <strong>the</strong> Plant<br />
Access to a plant <strong>in</strong> general should be prohibited for all untra<strong>in</strong>ed persons and all persons who do not<br />
work <strong>the</strong>re. This <strong>in</strong>cludes specifically children, also after work<strong>in</strong>g hours.<br />
However, trespassers and outsiders often have free entry to any part of <strong>the</strong> unit. This poses a security<br />
problem (e.g. th<strong>in</strong>gs can get stolen) and a safety problem (e.g. person might get hurt because <strong>the</strong>y do<br />
not know <strong>the</strong> operations). Entry of unauthorized persons <strong>the</strong>refore needs to be restricted.<br />

Solutions to secure access and protect health<br />
Install gates at entrance po<strong>in</strong>ts, which can be controlled and locked after work<strong>in</strong>g hours<br />
Have a fence around <strong>the</strong> entire premise<br />
Vehicle movement should be controlled and documented <strong>in</strong> a log by a security guard for future<br />
reference<br />
Assign security personnel to <strong>the</strong> entry gate to control unauthorized entry <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> unit. These<br />
security guards should <strong>the</strong>n be able to assist <strong>in</strong> head counts <strong>in</strong> case of an emergency<br />
Security guards can also check on <strong>the</strong> condition of <strong>the</strong> drivers for <strong>the</strong>ir proper identification<br />
(license), credentials, and physical condition
