Solutions:<br />

Issue and use proper lea<strong>the</strong>r gloves, shoes and goggles<br />

Immediate tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g is needed on safe manual material handl<strong>in</strong>g procedures <strong>in</strong> order to create<br />

awareness on safety and avoid<strong>in</strong>g MSD, back pa<strong>in</strong>, etc.<br />

Shoes and gloves should be made mandatory for this k<strong>in</strong>d of work<br />

B.6 Clean<strong>in</strong>g work under <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> crusher<br />

Nature of work:<br />

The ma<strong>in</strong> crusher is cleaned at two stages. First, when quarry dust is collected dur<strong>in</strong>g crush<strong>in</strong>g from<br />

<strong>the</strong> pit below and <strong>the</strong> second to remove <strong>the</strong> fall<strong>in</strong>g and struck boulders from <strong>the</strong> pit below <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong><br />

crusher. While collect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> dust from below <strong>the</strong> crusher, <strong>the</strong> workers are exposed to <strong>the</strong> highest and<br />

most hazardous concentrations of dust. Often women conduct this activity.<br />

Risk Factors:<br />

− Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD) and back pa<strong>in</strong> due to work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> conf<strong>in</strong>ed spaces and hav<strong>in</strong>g<br />

little room for safe lift<strong>in</strong>g<br />

− Over exertion while lift<strong>in</strong>g without proper hand protection may result <strong>in</strong> hand and leg <strong>in</strong>juries<br />

MSD due to <strong>the</strong> constant bend<strong>in</strong>g and lift<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> women workers<br />

Low light<strong>in</strong>g due to <strong>the</strong> location and to dust formation may cause disturbance <strong>in</strong> vision, eye<br />

disorders, pulmonary diseases, and o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>juries
