Nature of work:<br />

Regular movement of persons to <strong>the</strong> top of <strong>the</strong> boulder collection pit, particularly <strong>the</strong> truck drivers and<br />

cleaners, and o<strong>the</strong>r crush<strong>in</strong>g unit workers through <strong>the</strong> unleveled boulders heap.<br />

Risk Factors:<br />

− Trip and fall hazards present due to <strong>the</strong> unsafe manner <strong>in</strong> which workers get from <strong>the</strong> crusher area<br />

to <strong>the</strong> top of <strong>the</strong> load<strong>in</strong>g pit (i.e.: climb<strong>in</strong>g on boulders).<br />

Slips are also possible and even a slip can cause <strong>in</strong>juries and <strong>the</strong> possibility of boulders roll<strong>in</strong>g<br />

over <strong>the</strong> worker<br />

Regular use of such access may cause MSD and back pa<strong>in</strong><br />

M<strong>in</strong>or hand and palm <strong>in</strong>juries, bruises, etc. are common s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> palm is used as support for<br />

ascend<strong>in</strong>g or descend<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> boulder pile.<br />

Solutions:<br />

of a hand rail is preferable<br />

Provide warn<strong>in</strong>g boards for restricted and safe use
