Activity 8.1: Concept of gender and gender differences

voice their understanding of ‘gender’. Give a short presentation explaining how ‘gender’ differs
from ‘sex’ and clarify the differences.
Discuss how society differentiates between activities that are perceived as ‘man’s work’ and
‘woman’s work’.
Activity 8.2: Gender and flash flood risk management
Time: 15 minutes
Step 1
Discuss how issues of gender are of concern in flash flood risk management.

trainer
The class may not be aware that access to and control over
various resources can be gender specific. Clarify that gender as
well as economic status, age, and physical fitness can all affect
flood risk.
