FOR THE NEPISIGUIT FALLS GENERATING STATION MODIFICATION AND REHABILITATION PROJECT<br />
5.0 PUBLIC, STAKEHOLDER AND ABORIGINAL ENGAGEMENT<br />
As a part of <strong>the</strong> <strong>EIA</strong> process <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Project, <strong>the</strong> Proponent will provide <strong>the</strong> potentially affected<br />
public and o<strong>the</strong>r stakeholders with a meaningful opportunity to provide comment, and will<br />
provide a report of <strong>the</strong>se comments and how <strong>the</strong>y were addressed, to NBENV <strong>for</strong> consideration.<br />
5.1 PUBLIC AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT<br />
Public consultation will be undertaken on a number of levels including: direct engagement with<br />
individuals and stakeholders; public in<strong>for</strong>mation sessions; direct notification about <strong>the</strong> Project to<br />
elected officials and neighbours of <strong>the</strong> Project, advertisements in local media; and follow-up<br />
meetings as required.<br />
Key stakeholders will be contacted, and those who express an interest in <strong>the</strong> Project will be<br />
provided with a project in<strong>for</strong>mation sheet, including a map showing <strong>the</strong> location of <strong>the</strong> Project,<br />
and a written description of key features of <strong>the</strong> Project. At <strong>the</strong> front end of <strong>the</strong> process, one-onone<br />
semi-structured telephone interviews may be scheduled and conducted with some<br />
stakeholders who are identified as key in<strong>for</strong>mants or representatives of significant groups,<br />
organizations or associations, in order to qualify in<strong>for</strong>mation and develop <strong>the</strong> basis to plan future<br />
face to face meetings. Most interviews will take place over <strong>the</strong> phone, though if required some<br />
may take place in person. A preliminary list of potential stakeholders is provided in Table 5.1.<br />

The purpose of all events is to in<strong>for</strong>m and update stakeholders on <strong>the</strong> Project, answer any<br />
questions, solicit input, and to collect and communicate any concerns back to appropriate<br />
NB Power personnel and, <strong>the</strong>re<strong>for</strong>e as relevant, into <strong>the</strong> environmental assessment and<br />
regulatory process.<br />
