Signs of breathing<br />

Bluish color of skin, lips, fingertips or nails (may not be<br />

getting air)<br />

Pulse<br />

What to do…<br />

• Have someone call for an ambulance.<br />

• Once victim is out of the water, check ABCs... Airway,<br />

Breathing & Circulation.<br />

• Check to see if there are any injuries or objects in mouth.<br />

• If victim is not breathing or has no pulse, begin Rescue<br />

Breathing <strong>and</strong>/or CPR. (see BREATHING PROBLEMS for<br />

Rescue Breathing <strong>and</strong> HEART PROBLEMS for CPR)<br />

• Once victim starts breathing on their own, cover with a<br />

blanket or dry towels to keep warm <strong>and</strong> have them lay<br />

on their side for a while.<br />

• Stay with victim at all times until m<strong>ed</strong>ical help arrives.<br />
