[ ] Keep at least a three-day supply of water for each person in home<br />

<strong>and</strong> store extra water for pets. Rotate new cases / bottles every 6<br />

months. Consider getting large 55-gallon drums or containers for<br />

long-term water storage from a reputable dealer <strong>and</strong> treat the water.<br />

[ ] Consider purchasing a certifi<strong>ed</strong> portable water purification filter.<br />

[ ] Review TIPS ON WATER PURIFICATION at end of Section 2.<br />

FOOD<br />

Choose foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking <strong>and</strong><br />

little or no water. If you must heat food, pack a can of sterno or a small<br />

propane camping stove. Select foods that are compact <strong>and</strong> lightweight <strong>and</strong><br />

rotate food out every 6 months. (Keep items like this h<strong>and</strong>y in pantry too.)<br />

[ ] Ready-to-eat cann<strong>ed</strong> meats, fish, fruits, <strong>and</strong> vegetables (<strong>and</strong> put<br />

in a manual can opener!!) Make sure cans don’t have dents in them.<br />

[ ] Cann<strong>ed</strong> juices, milk, soups (if powder or cubes, store extra water)<br />

[ ] Staples - sugar, salt, pepper<br />

[ ] High energy foods - peanut butter, jelly, crackers, granola bars,<br />

trail mix, nuts, jerky, dri<strong>ed</strong> fruits, <strong>Emergency</strong> Food bars, etc.<br />

[ ] Vitamins & herbs (e.g. a good multiple, Vitamins C & E, garlic<br />

pills [boosts immune], L-Tyrosine [an amino acid for stress], etc.)<br />

[ ] Foods for infants, elderly persons or persons on special diets<br />

[ ] Foods for your pet (if necessary)<br />

[ ] Comfort / stress foods - cookies, hard c<strong>and</strong>y, suckers, sweeten<strong>ed</strong><br />

cereal, instant coffee, tea bags, powder<strong>ed</strong> drink mixes, etc.<br />

[ ] Some companies offer survival <strong>and</strong> long-term storage foods that<br />

are freeze dri<strong>ed</strong> <strong>and</strong> sold in months, 1-year, <strong>and</strong> 2-year supplies<br />

FIRST AID KITS<br />

You should always be prepar<strong>ed</strong> <strong>and</strong> keep a First Aid Kit in your home <strong>and</strong><br />

in every car <strong>and</strong> make sure everyone knows where kits are <strong>and</strong> how to use<br />

them. And if you like the outdoors (hiking, biking, etc.) you should carry a<br />

small Kit in your fanny pack or backpack as a precaution.<br />
