Bleeding the fuel system
Attention !
Fuel contamination
• Can result in damage to the engine.
• Do not open fuel lines to bleed the fuel system.
1. Release the bleed screw on the fuel filter base by turning it twice fully anticlockwise.
2. Actuate the fuel pump feed lever until fuel escapes from the bleed
screw.
3. Tighten the bleed screw clockwise. Continue to actuate the fuel feed
pump until there is no noticeable pump effect.
4. Switch on the engine and check the fuel system for leaks.
5. If the engine does not start, repeat steps 1-4.
Drain off condensation at the fuel filter
Condensate water can be drained from both the preliminary fuel filter and
the fuel filter. This is normally done during a service and filter change.If engine
performance starts to drop, check to make sure there is no water in the
filters.
1. Provide a suitable vessel..
2. The bleed valve can be undone by turning anticlockwise.

3. As soon as only fuel runs out, the bleed valve can be reclosed. 3

8.5.6 Cleaning the crankcase bleed pipe
1. Remove the crankcase bleed pipe
2. Clean it.
3. Fit the bleed pipe. Make sure that the O-ring is correctly seated in the
rocker cover of the elbow adapter.
4. Tighten the hose clamp.
8.5.7 Checking and adjusting valve play
The valve play must be adjusted and re-adjusted after 2000 operating hours.
Lower machine in a horizontal position onto the chassis. The rear, side and
engine covers must be removed to enable work to be carried out unhindered.Please
refer to the John Deere Operating Manual for further details.
