The high throughput biology team has used<br />
<strong>the</strong>se devices to screen for host pathogen<br />
<strong>in</strong>teractions <strong>in</strong> HIV 2 ; trypanosome <strong>in</strong>fection 3<br />
(such as is found <strong>in</strong> sleep<strong>in</strong>g sickness and<br />
Chagas disease); and <strong>the</strong> most common<br />
genetic disease <strong>in</strong> caucasians, cystic<br />
fi brosis 4 .<br />
Apart from <strong>the</strong> technology developed,<br />
<strong>the</strong> team has also built <strong>the</strong> majority of<br />
<strong>in</strong>frastructure, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g clean facilities.<br />
Several Master’s and PhD students have<br />
benefi ted from <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>in</strong>volvement <strong>in</strong> this<br />
novel research that offers great opportunity<br />
for improv<strong>in</strong>g patient treatment, by<br />
match<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> treatment to <strong>the</strong> disease.<br />
Commercialis<strong>in</strong>g this technology to<br />
personalise high throughout biology is <strong>the</strong><br />
team’s long-term focus.<br />
The pr<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g head used to pr<strong>in</strong>t<br />
experiments on glass wafers.<br />
