DISSEMINATION
The CSIR’s institutional repository
of research publications, known as
CSIR Researchspace, launched in
August 2007. It remains the only
open access, online repository by a
South African research council. CSIR
Researchspace currently (July 2011)
holds the highest ranking amongst
institutional repositories from Africa
and is positioned 196th in the world
ranking.
The number of items downloaded from
Researchspace increased from
113 327 per annum in 2007/08
to 567 654 in 2010/11. Figure
1 depicts the annual growth pattern
for the past four fi nancial years. On
average 47 305 copies of articles
were downloaded from the repository
per month during the reporting year.
