Żabno
– My Memory
The Communal Cultural Centre
in Żabno ran the project Żabno
– My Memory from June 18
through September 4, 2011, in
the commune of Żabno (Lesser
Poland Province, Tarnów
District). The aim of the project
was to make documentaries
about the history of the town,
understood as a subjective
memory of the town, its
surroundings and events
important to its residents.

n analysis of the needs of the
local community conducted
before the launch of the project
revealed the need to increase cultural activity
in the town, provide young people with
cultural education through innovative, attractive
and diverse initiatives, and promote
cultural heritage through interesting events
and projects. This is why the project Żabno –
My Memory aimed to strengthen the identity
of the place and its history (through stories
told by local residents) and to deliver an interesting
cultural offer, thus activating the
local community. The project was primarily
geared toward residents of the town of
Żabno.
the project
The project included six workshops focused
on film, radio and photography. Participants
included residents of the town and commune
of Żabno and project partners: the Friends
of Żabno Society, Holy Spirit Roman Catholic
Parish in Żabno and the Association of Third
Age University in Tarnów. The workshops
were led by experienced instructors. Photography
workshops were run by Paweł Topolski,
a well-known Tarnów photographer; film
workshops by cinematographer Maciej Flaumenhaft;
radio workshops by Żabno Cultural
Centre director Wojciech Markiewicz and
sound engineer Andrzej Rehman.
