Conclusions Golf course development is one of many pressures on the urban fringes of our cities and towns. The benefits in terms of increased revenues from the land are clear and they are likely to yield higher per acre revenues. However, factoring in the costs of purchasing land means that these developments may prove not to be that viable in cost-benefit terms, unless there is significant ancillary property development, and hence more pressure on the urban fringe, or benefits in terms of increased high quality tourism.
