• Case management services for families with children having behavioral <strong>and</strong> emotional problems;<br />

• Respite care including recruitment <strong>and</strong> training <strong>of</strong> respite care providers <strong>and</strong> respite reimbursement for low to<br />

moderate-income families having one or more children with a disability;<br />

• <strong>Family</strong> self-sufficiency mentoring programs (for both youth <strong>and</strong> their families);<br />

• Leadership skills development; after-school <strong>and</strong> parenting programs (bi-lingual <strong>and</strong> teen parenting;<br />

• Domestic violence counseling;<br />

• Transitional housing services including case management services, supportive services, <strong>and</strong> education for<br />

women with children;<br />

• Intensive services to families referred by DCFS/CPS with first contact at the courthouse immediately after the<br />

court hearing; <strong>and</strong><br />

• <strong>Services</strong> to locate relatives <strong>of</strong> children for placement as an alternative to placing the child(ren) in foster care.<br />

Washoe County: 2,786 families, 10,861 individuals, 6,057 children, 524 persons with a disability <strong>and</strong> 1,287 single heads<br />

<strong>of</strong> households were provided the following services during FFY 2009 through the agencies funded in Washoe County:<br />

• <strong>Child</strong>ren/Youth Development <strong>Services</strong> – <strong>Child</strong> Care, <strong>Child</strong> Development Classes / Activities, Mentoring Programs,<br />

Teen/Youth Support Group, Tutoring, Day Care Assistance <strong>and</strong> Playgroups.<br />

• Health Service – CPR Training, Nutrition Classes, Health Education <strong>and</strong> Health Screening.<br />

• Information <strong>and</strong> Referral <strong>Services</strong> – Referrals to Outside Agencies, Community Awareness Campaigns <strong>and</strong> Resource<br />

Libraries.<br />

• Life Skills/Development Training – Budget/Financial Counseling, GED Classes, Life Skills Group, Employment<br />

Training, Homemaker <strong>Services</strong> / Training, Literacy Training, English as Second Language (ESL) Classes, Job Search<br />

/ Placement Assistance <strong>and</strong> Parenting Classes / Training, <strong>and</strong> Computer Skills Training.<br />

• Support <strong>Services</strong> – Assessment <strong>Services</strong>, Crisis Intervention, Home Visits, Respite, Case Management, Domestic<br />

Violence <strong>Services</strong>, Individual Counseling, Support Groups, Client Advocacy, <strong>and</strong> <strong>Family</strong> Counseling, Parent Support<br />

Groups, Relative Searches <strong>and</strong> Therapy.<br />

• Basic Needs <strong>Services</strong> – <strong>Child</strong> Safety Seats, Transportation Assistance, Clothing, Housing, Utility Assistance, Food,<br />

Rental Assistance <strong>and</strong> Other Basic Needs that include the following:<br />

• Home-based crisis intervention <strong>and</strong> counseling services for families with children who have been removed from<br />

their homes or who are at imminent risk <strong>of</strong> removal due to family issues including domestic violence, poverty,<br />

substance abuse;<br />

• Home-based homemaker services to prevent removal <strong>of</strong> children;<br />

• <strong>Services</strong> to Spanish-speaking families as well as translation services;<br />

• Washoe County's <strong>Child</strong> Protective <strong>Services</strong> (CPS) <strong>Family</strong> Assessment;<br />

• <strong>Family</strong> counseling/therapy (bilingual, home- or center-based);<br />

• Prevention/education services;<br />

• Advocacy <strong>and</strong> assistance for families with children with disabilities;<br />

• Families with children having special health care needs;<br />

• Transient/homeless services to families;<br />

• <strong>Family</strong> visitations;<br />

• Medical <strong>and</strong> dental care; <strong>and</strong><br />

• Substance abuse outpatient <strong>and</strong> residential treatment for women with one child, including, transitional housing,<br />

life skills training, <strong>and</strong> parenting.<br />
