British Horse Society Preliminary Instructor<br />

(BHSPI) Certificate<br />

Course outline<br />

Noted below are the sections covered in the BHSPI<br />

course:<br />

• British Horse Society Stage 1: consisting of<br />

horse knowledge and care, riding a variety of<br />

horses on the flat.<br />

• British Horse Society Riding and Road Safety<br />

Certificate.<br />

• British Horse Society Stage 2: consisting of<br />

horse knowledge, care, lungeing and riding a<br />

variety of horses on the flat and over fences.<br />

• British Horse Society Stage 3: consisting of<br />

horse knowledge, care, lungeing and riding a<br />

variety of horses over fences, on the flat and<br />

cross country.<br />

• British Horse Society Preliminary<br />

Teaching Test: consisting of theory, class, lunge<br />

and lead rein lessons.<br />

Further information<br />

Pupils who already hold the Pony Club B Test are not<br />

required to pass the BHS Stage 1 and 2 examinations<br />

and can proceed straight to BHS Stage 3 level at the<br />

age of 17 with GCSE passes.<br />

The BHSPI has the potential for 105 UCAS points,<br />

which are made up as follows:<br />

Stage 3 Care = 35 points<br />

BHS Stage 3 Riding = 35 points<br />

BHS PTT = 35 points<br />
