Further Mathematics
Course outline
The Further Mathematics modules introduce pupils
to some exciting new concepts such as groups,
matrices and complex numbers. The trigonometry,
calculus and algebra introduced in A level
Mathematics is extended.
Further information
For 1.5 Mathematics a grade A at GCSE or IGCSE is
essential. However, pupils with less than an A* will
find this course extremely challenging. To join a
Double Mathematics class pupils must have an A*
at GCSE or IGCSE level and a passionate interest in
mathematics; a good grade in some additional
qualification (e.g. Additional Mathematics) will be
an advantage, but is not essential.
Anyone interested in studying mathematics at a
top university will need to have studied Further
Mathematics at either AS or A2. This course is
also an advantage for anyone considering physics,
engineering or economics. Further Mathematics
A level is a well respected qualification which is
widely regarded as one of the hardest to obtain.
We use the OCR A level syllabus.
The specification numbers are:
7890, 3892 (AS) and 7892 (A2)
