BTEC Business<br />

(BTEC Level 3 Diploma)<br />

Business Communication shows how the collection<br />

and management of business information, and the<br />

successful communication of that information<br />

throughout a business, is critical for the future<br />

prosperity of the organisation.<br />

A further eight option units should also be chosen:<br />

Business Accounting enables pupils to understand<br />

the purpose of accounting and the associated<br />

processes and its role in the managing of a business.<br />

Pupils will develop the skills and knowledge needed<br />

to understand financial information.<br />

Creative Product Promotion gives an opportunity<br />

to learn about the promotional mix, and the related<br />

topics of buyer behaviour and branding, before going<br />

on to design their own small-scale promotional<br />

campaign.<br />

Starting a Small Business enables pupils to<br />

understand the skills needed to set up and run a<br />

business, and the regulations that need to be<br />

complied with. Pupils will also have the opportunity<br />

to prepare a detailed business plan.<br />

Understanding Business Ethics introduces the<br />

concept of business ethics and examines its<br />

application to the conduct of individuals in<br />

organisations and to the conduct of the<br />

organisation as a whole.<br />

Business and the Economics Environment<br />

considers the interaction between the general<br />

economic environment and business activity and<br />

how the interactions generate national wellbeing.<br />

Pupils will study how government activities regulate<br />

and influence business activities and how business<br />

activities influence government action and policy.<br />

Market Research in Business enables pupils to<br />

develop an understanding of the fundamental<br />

concepts that underpin why businesses collect data<br />

about their market, how they collect and interpret<br />

it and how it can be used to support marketing<br />

decisions.<br />

Recruitment and Selection in Business introduces<br />

pupils to recruitment and the importance of<br />

ensuring that the best people are selected to work<br />

in organisations. Pupils will study selection and<br />

recruitment techniques and will set up, and take<br />

part in, a selection interview.<br />

Aspects of Employment Law introduces pupils to<br />

employment law as it applies to businesses. Pupils<br />

will do this through application of the law to<br />

employment situations and will consider the<br />

meaning and effect of contracts of employment.<br />

Managing a Business Event develops skills in<br />

and knowledge of organising and co-ordinating a<br />

business event. Pupils will do this through planning,<br />

implementation and follow-up activities involved in<br />

running a business event.<br />

The recommended minimum entry requirement for<br />

BTEC Business is at least four GCSE passes at C or<br />

above.<br />
