Unit 4: Coursework.<br />

• Approximately 60 hours of work worth 30% of<br />

A level:<br />

• Candidates choose a project to undertake and<br />

submit a single substantial design and make<br />

activity – the end result being a<br />

portfolio and a 3D product.<br />

• Key skills throughout include: research, analysis,<br />

problem solving, ICT, imaginative ideas, good<br />

presentation, modelling and making suitable<br />

outcomes, communicating, and evaluation.<br />

The Examination Board for this course is: WJEC<br />

Further information<br />

For acceptance onto the course, you should normally<br />

have achieved at least four C grades at GCSE. Some<br />

experience in a design based GCSE subject is highly<br />

desirable, plus evidence of a strong design folio.<br />

Grade B and above in GCSE Product Design is<br />

desirable. Art/Textiles portfolios will be considered.<br />

Subjects that combine well with Product Design<br />

include: Photography, Maths, Physics, Business<br />

Studies, Physical Education and BTEC Art & Design.<br />

This A level is good preparation for a wide variety of<br />

university courses, including: Product Design, Graphic<br />

Design, Textiles, Engineering and Architecture.<br />
