BTEC Extended Diploma (Level 3)<br />
Music<br />
The BTEC Extended Diploma in Music offers<br />
a practical insight into the workings of the<br />
modern Music industry. If you have a keen<br />
interest in popular music, can play an instrument<br />
or have experience of music technology, this<br />
course will help you develop your skills in a<br />
practical environment. The course offers you<br />
the opportunity to explore the development of<br />
popular music and the Music industry through<br />
performance, composition, recording and<br />
promotion. The course encompasses<br />
Songwriting, Arranging, Music Theory &<br />
Harmony, Popular Music History, Acoustics,<br />
Concert Production, Live Sound, Marketing,<br />
Recording & Production Techniques and<br />
Performance Aspects. You also have the option<br />
to study ABRSM Music Theory grades. As well<br />
as performing regular live gigs, you will also have<br />
the opportunity to promote and crew external<br />
local music events. All students will work in bands<br />
throughout the course and perform approximately<br />
every four to six weeks.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
You need five GCSEs at grade C or above. Ideally, you will<br />
also need to play a musical instrument to Grade 3 level<br />
and have experience of music technology application and<br />
musical composition.<br />
Course Expenses<br />
Music theory books, exam entries, consumable media and<br />
equipment maintenance - £90. You need to provide your<br />
own headphones, instruments and associated leads.<br />
Backline is provided.<br />
Career Prospects/Progression<br />
This course is designed to deliver a balanced curriculum which<br />
develops not just your performance and composition skills, but<br />
also technological ability, which is highly valued by the Music<br />
sector. Many students progress to Higher Education, completing<br />
courses such as Foundation degrees, Higher National Diplomas<br />
and full Honours degrees in a range of Music-related subjects,<br />
such as Popular Music, Production, Music Technology, Sonic Art<br />
and Music Journalism. The Extended Diploma is equivalent to<br />
three A Levels and is widely accepted by universities.<br />
