Uniformed Public Services<br />

NVQ Award (Level 1)<br />

Sport & Active Leisure<br />

This qualification is recognised by employers as<br />

an entry level, introductory qualification for those<br />

preparing to work in the Active Leisure, Learning<br />

and Wellbeing sector. As part of this course,<br />

you will develop your functional operational<br />

skills and have the opportunity to take additional<br />

courses/qualifications such as the Junior Sports<br />

Leadership Award, the Award in Exercise Studies,<br />

the Award in Sports Leadership, the Certificate<br />

in Supporting Activities and Events for Sport &<br />

Leisure and an Award in Sport First Aid.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

You need a range of GCSEs at E to G grades and a genuine<br />

interest in working in the Leisure industry.<br />

Course Expenses<br />

Sports Kit – approximately £105. Junior Sports Leadership<br />

qualification record book – £15.<br />

Work Experience<br />

You will complete work experience for one day a week from<br />

October until June, as well as a week at the Bath and West<br />

Disabled Games coaching athletes.<br />

Trips/Residentials<br />

There are many opportunities for trips throughout the year,<br />

including optional visits to Wimbledon and Twickenham.<br />

Career Prospects/Progression<br />

If you successfully complete this course, you can continue<br />

your training at Level 2 with either the NVQ Diploma in<br />

Instructing, Exercise & Fitness, incorporating the Certificate<br />

in Activity Leadership, or the NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure,<br />

Learning & Wellbeing Operational Services. Alternatively,<br />

you can apply for employment.<br />

NVQ Certificate (Level 2)<br />

Active Leisure, Learning &<br />

Wellbeing Operational Services<br />

This course allows you to develop the skills you<br />

need to provide Operational Services in the<br />

Leisure industry. The course uses a practical,<br />

hands-on approach to operating in a leisure facility<br />

and helps you to develop the personal skills<br />

required by the sector, such as leadership and<br />

team working. You will also have the opportunity<br />

to complete additional qualifications alongside<br />

this course, such as the Community Sports<br />

Leadership Award, a Certificate in First Aid, a<br />

Certificate of Employability Skills, the Award<br />

in Instructing Circuit Training and the Award in<br />

Improving Personal Exercise, Health and Nutrition.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

You need a range of GCSEs at grade D and below and Level 1<br />

English, as well as a genuine interest in the sport and<br />

leisure industry.<br />

Course Expenses<br />

Course Sports Kit – approximately £105. Community Sports<br />

Leadership Award record book – £26.25.<br />

You will complete work experience for one day a week from<br />

October until June, as well as a week at the Bath and West<br />
