IT Users<br />
These Apprenticeships provide you with the<br />
necessary skills to carry out general IT duties in<br />
areas such as Fault Diagnosis & Repair, Customer<br />
Relations, Programming, Systems Analysis<br />
and Database Management. The Advanced<br />
Apprenticeship develops skills learned at Level 2<br />
and also prepares you for managing ICT systems.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
For the Intermediate Apprenticeship, you need GCSE Maths<br />
and English at grade D or above, along with a suitable work<br />
placement. To join the Advanced course, you need GCSE<br />
Maths and English at grade C or above and a work placement.<br />
Course Expenses<br />
You may need to purchase unit-specific books.<br />
Career Prospects/Progression<br />
If you successfully complete the Intermediate Apprenticeship,<br />
you may progress to the Advanced course. Successful<br />
completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship could lead to a<br />
Foundation degree, such as those available at the University<br />
Centre <strong>Yeovil</strong> (UCY).<br />
This qualification is designed to give you the<br />
required skills to succeed as an IT user.<br />
The course is assessed in the workplace<br />
through evidence provided through your job.<br />
At Intermediate level, you will complete<br />
mandatory units in Health & Safety and<br />
Developing Personal Skills, while at Advanced<br />
Level, you will complete a module in Improving<br />
Productivity Using IT.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
To join the Intermediate Apprenticeship, you need GCSE<br />
Maths and English at grade D or above. For the Advanced<br />
Apprenticeship, you must have at least grade C in GSCE<br />
Maths and English. You also need a suitable placement.<br />
Career Prospects/Progression<br />
Following successful completion of the Level 2 course, you<br />
can progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in a related area.<br />
If you complete the Advanced Apprenticeship, you can apply<br />
for Higher Education courses, such as those available at the<br />
University Centre <strong>Yeovil</strong> (UCY).<br />
BTEC Diploma/Extended Diploma<br />
(Level 3) Applied Science<br />
(Forensic Science)<br />
This course is ideal for those of you wanting<br />
to study Science to become a professional<br />
scientist in the future. This course offers a “real<br />
Science” qualification, focused on the real world,<br />
real scientists and real jobs, including Forensic<br />
Science. This is a very practical course in which<br />
you learn Science skills by completing projects and<br />
assignments based on realistic workplace activities.<br />
Entry requirements<br />
You need GCSE at grade C or above in Maths, English Language<br />
and Science. You must be able to express yourself clearly, have<br />
good self-organisational skills and have reasonable numerical skills.<br />
Course expenses<br />
There may be some travelling expenses for visiting the company<br />
used for the external units. Trips will be arranged during the<br />
course (cost to be confirmed).<br />
Career Prospects/Progression<br />
On successful completion of these qualifications, you may<br />
progress on to a range of related Higher Education degrees, such<br />
as the Forensic Science degree available at the University Centre<br />
<strong>Yeovil</strong> (UCY), or move directly into employment.<br />
