Sport & Exercise Science
This qualification provides industry-recognised
occupational standards and is designed as a
work-related qualification, focussed on developing
your practical skills and underpinning Sport
knowledge. Alongside your Diploma, you will be
able to take the Community Sports Leadership
Award and a First Aid qualification in your first
year. During the second year, you can complete
the Higher Sports Leadership Award and you
will be encouraged to obtain at least one national
governing body award in a specific sport.
Entry Requirements
You need at least six GCSEs at grade C or above. These must
include English Language, Science and Maths. You also need
to demonstrate a keen interest in studying and show a proven
commitment to participating in sport.
Course Expenses
Sports kit – approximately £105. Course textbook – £25.
Community Sports Leadership Award – £26.25. Higher Sports
Leadership Award – £37.75. National Governing Body Awards
are charged separately.
This is a nationally recognised Sports & Recreation
Apprenticeship, specifically designed to give you
the right combination of practical and theoretical
knowledge and skills to develop within the
industry. This Apprenticeship is aimed at students
working in Operational Services and aims to
provide you with greater career opportunities in
this area. The programme encompasses an NVQ
(Level 2) Sport Operation & Operators, BTEC
Award (Level 2) in Employment Awareness in
Active Leisure and a BTEC First Diploma (Level 2)
in Sport.
Entry requirements
You need a range of GCSEs at grade C to F. You should also be
working in an appropriate job role by the start of your course.
Course Expenses
Optional sports kit – approximately £105.
Career Prospects/Progression
Following successful completion of this Apprenticeship, you can
either continue your training with a relevant Level 3 qualification
or apply for employment in roles such as leisure centre
management, leisure centre assistant or fitness centre assistant.
Work Experience
You will complete a two week placement related to your area
of interest.
Trips/Residentials
Opportunities include visits to Wimbledon, Twickenham and
Yeovil Town Football Club, as well as a ski trip and a sports
careers convention.
Career Prospects/Progression
If you successfully complete this course, you can progress to
a higher qualification. For example, you could study for an
Honours degree in subjects such as Sports Coaching, Sports
Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Sports Therapy, Sports Science,
Leisure Management, Physiotherapy or Sports Development.
You may also be able to access a Physical Education teaching
degree following this course.
