NVQ Diploma (Level 2)<br />

Instructing Exercise & Fitness<br />

This course is for exercise and fitness instructors<br />

who are capable of planning delivery and<br />

evaluating a series of sessions independently.<br />

If you successfully complete this course, you<br />

will be able to lead, organise and plan sessions<br />

for groups. Alongside this course, you will also<br />

have the opportunity to complete the NVQ<br />

Certificate in Activity Leadership, the Community<br />

Sports Leadership Award and a Certificate in<br />

First Aid in Sport.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

You need a range of GCSEs at C to F grades, a minimum of a<br />

Level 1 English qualification and proven coaching or leadership<br />

experience.<br />

Course Expenses<br />

Course sports kit – approximately £105. Community Sports<br />

Leadership Qualification log book – £26.25.<br />

Work Experience<br />

You will complete work experience for one day a week from<br />

October until June, as well as a week at the Bath and West<br />

Disabled Games coaching athletes. The course will also<br />

require a commitment to external events, often in the<br />

evenings and at weekends.<br />

Trips/Residentials<br />

There are many opportunities for various trips throughout the<br />

year, including optional visits to Wimbledon and Twickenham.<br />

Career Prospects/Progression<br />

Following successful completion of this course, you can apply<br />

for Coaching positions or continue your training with a Level 3<br />

qualification, such as the Diploma in Sport.<br />

BTEC Diploma (Level 2)<br />

Sport<br />

This is an industry-recognised qualification<br />

which aims to provide you with the underpinning<br />

knowledge required to work in Sport. The national<br />

occupational standards have been integrated into<br />

this course to ensure you are well prepared for<br />

employment. You will learn about Fitness Testing<br />

& Training, Practical Sports, the Effects of Exercise<br />

on the Body, the Development of Personal Fitness<br />

and the Psychology of Sports Performance.<br />

Alongside this qualification, you may have the<br />

opportunity to take the Sports Leadership Award<br />

and Sport & Leisure Award.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

You need at least two GCSEs at grade C or above alongside<br />

D and E grades in a range of subjects.<br />

Course Expenses<br />

Sports kit – approximately £105. Junior Sports Leadership Award<br />

Booklet – approximately £20. There may also be fees associated<br />

with gym membership and sports enrichment activities and with<br />

National Governing Body Awards, which you are encouraged to<br />

take alongside your course to increase your employability.<br />

Work Experience<br />

You will complete a two week placement related to your area<br />

of interest.<br />

Trips/Residentials<br />

Opportunities include visits to Wimbledon, Twickenham and<br />

<strong>Yeovil</strong> Town Football Club, as well as a ski trip and a sports<br />

careers convention.<br />

Career Prospects/Progression<br />

Successful students can progress on to a Level 3 course in Sport,<br />

such as the Diploma or Extended Diploma, or seek employment<br />

in the Sport & Leisure industry.<br />
