This is a work-related qualification which<br />
focusses developing your practical skills and<br />
underpinning knowledge in Sport. It provides<br />
industry recognised occupational standards.<br />
Alongside your course, you will also have the<br />
opportunity to complete an NCFE Coaching<br />
Award, the Community Sports Leaders Award<br />
and a First Aid qualification in the first year.<br />
In the second year of your course, you will<br />
complete the Higher Sports Leadership Award<br />
and be encouraged to gain at least one national<br />
governing body award in a specific sport.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
You need at least four GCSEs grade C and above, one of<br />
which must be English Language. You must demonstrate<br />
a keen interest in studying and a proven commitment to<br />
participating in Sport.<br />
Course Expenses<br />
Sports kit – approximately £105. Course textbook - £25.<br />
Community Sports Leadership Award – £26.25. Higher<br />
Sports Leadership Award – £37.75. National Governing<br />
Body Awards are charged separately.<br />
Work Experience<br />
You will complete a two week placement related to your<br />
area of interest.<br />
Trips/Residentials<br />
Opportunities include visits to Wimbledon, Twickenham and<br />
<strong>Yeovil</strong> Town Football Club, as well as a ski trip and a sports<br />
careers convention.<br />
Career Prospects/Progression<br />
After successfully completing this course, you can progress<br />
on to a higher level qualification, such as NVQ Coaching,<br />
Leadership & Instructing or a Foundation degree, such as<br />
those available at the University Centre <strong>Yeovil</strong> (UCY). Previous<br />
students have studied Sport, Leisure Management, Sport<br />
Coaching and Sport Development at university-level. Alternatively,<br />
you could seek employment as a Local Authority sports<br />
development officer, a community sports coach, a<br />
youth leader or in other sports-related roles.<br />
