<strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Resources</strong> & Technology <strong>Services</strong> – <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> FY09<br />

The LR&<strong>TS</strong> communication team oversees the planning<br />

and implementation of LR&<strong>TS</strong> communications to<br />

internal university and external community audiences.<br />

The communication specialist provides professional<br />

writing, editing, designing, consulting and planning services<br />

to LR&<strong>TS</strong> as well as some assistance to the Center<br />

for Information Systems (CfIS) to meet communication<br />

needs. Communication personnel advise employees and<br />

provide project guidance and input as needed.<br />

Summary of FY09 accomplishments<br />

The communication team saw an increase in the number<br />

of requests for materials and support specifically related<br />

to events, and served on several event planning and host<br />

committees. This year, more than 90 e-mail communications<br />

were sent from the “lrtsinfo” account, keeping the<br />

SCSU community informed about technology downtimes,<br />

upgrades, policies, services and events. Communication<br />

plans and materials were developed to support many<br />

projects, and six enrichment sessions were planned and<br />

facilitated in the Miller Center for LR&<strong>TS</strong> employees.<br />

FY09 Goals<br />

Raise awareness of the services and resources provided by LR&<strong>TS</strong>.<br />

Inform and provide resources to the campus and community<br />

about changes to existing services and tools, new initiatives, policies<br />

and procedures, etc.<br />

• Designed a technology assistance advertisement for the<br />

<strong>2009</strong>-2010 Link publication.<br />

• Wrote and edited messages sent to campus regarding<br />

library and technology services, downtimes, workshops<br />

and events.<br />

• Served on the LR&<strong>TS</strong> Web committee and collaboratively<br />

redesigned the LR&<strong>TS</strong> Web site. Final launch is<br />

expected to occur in FY10.<br />

• Created and distributed the <strong>2008</strong>-09 Student Technology<br />

Handbook and the <strong>2008</strong>-09 Faculty/Staff<br />

Technology Guide.<br />

Coordinate time-sensitive communications to campus efficiently<br />

and effectively.<br />

• Wrote and distributed time-sensitive messages<br />

regarding issues with Desire2Learn, Internet connectivity,<br />

server downtime, File/Web space, e-mail<br />

and MnPALS.<br />

Communication<br />

• Communicated all LR&<strong>TS</strong>/Miller Center hours,<br />

closings and exceptions via the campus listservs and<br />

LR&<strong>TS</strong> Web sites.<br />

Develop and strengthen relationships with entities outside of LR&<strong>TS</strong>.<br />

• Partnered with SCSU’s Center for Excellence in Teaching<br />

and <strong>Learning</strong> (CETL), the Center for Information<br />

Systems (CfIS) the Technology and Pedagogical<br />

<strong>Resources</strong> committee (TPR) and other areas within<br />

LR&<strong>TS</strong>, to plan, promote and execute the events of<br />

the first campus technology day, Tech Day ’09.<br />

• Worked with SCSU’s Public Safety to provide training<br />

about on-campus safety readiness to LR&<strong>TS</strong><br />

employees, including the Star Alert program, the<br />

Critical Incident Readiness Team, and the new<br />

Emergency Procedure Guide.<br />

• Coordinated IT communications between CfIS and<br />

LR&<strong>TS</strong>.<br />

• Participated in the Teaching, <strong>Learning</strong> and Technology<br />

Roundtable.<br />

• Partnered with University Communications to<br />

publicize public events and create a logo for the<br />

SCSU Computer Store.<br />

• Met with the LR&<strong>TS</strong> outreach librarian to begin<br />

planning community outreach projects including a<br />

Miller Center Community Patron Privileges brochure<br />

and revising the self-guided tour.<br />

• Served on the host committee for the five-day <strong>2009</strong><br />

ResNet Symposium at SCSU.<br />

Reach out to and increase support for LR&<strong>TS</strong> service areas previously<br />

under served by the communication team.<br />

• Assisted with the rejuvenation of the liaison program<br />

by serving on the library liaison committee and<br />

designing a brochure for the G.R. Herberger College<br />

of Business library liaisons.<br />

• Helped increase visibility of University Archives<br />

& Special Collections by producing a brochure<br />

and bookmark, and developing news ways such as<br />

the new blog and Miller Center lobby displays to<br />

promote archives.<br />

• Collaborated with the Quiet Spaces committee to designate<br />

quiet and group spaces throughout the Miller<br />

Center library, and designed table tents and posters.<br />

• Worked with Instructional Technology & Infrastructure<br />

<strong>Services</strong> (ITIS) staff to better inform faculty and<br />

staff about Web, video and phone conferencing.
