US KEEPS AN EYE ON THIS PROJECT<br />
As a country with gradually increasing natural<br />
gas production, Azerbaijan’s gas production<br />
in 2013 was <strong>29</strong>.5 billion cubic<br />
meters. It is estimated that the production<br />
volume will be around 60 billion cubic<br />
meters by 2030. Although Azerbaijan is the<br />
only gas supplier in this project, rich gas<br />
resources in Iraq, Iran and Eastern<br />
Mediterranean may also be integrated into<br />
this line in the future. Especially after the<br />
construction of the Trans-Caspian Pipeline,<br />
Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan<br />
may sell their gas through this line, which<br />
will further increase the importance of the<br />
area and the corridor. Considering these<br />
possibilities, it is estimated that around 100<br />
billion cubic meters of gas may be exported<br />
to Europe through the Southern Gas<br />
Corridor in 2030s. Amos Hochstein, US<br />
Special Envoy and Coordinator for<br />
International Energy Affairs, sees this<br />
potential besides the contribution of the<br />
project to energy security. Hochstein says<br />
that European energy security depends on<br />
Azerbaijan and Turkey, and the US government<br />
has a close interest in this subject. He<br />
also mentions that the presidents of Turkey,<br />
Azerbaijan and Georgia displayed a leadership<br />
model to the world with their political<br />
