Kyrgyzstan. This year, cultural and sportive
activities were held in squares, parks
and race courses. The most glorious event
took place in the main square of Bishkek.
Children and young girls wearing colorful
clothes had dance shows. Famous stage
actors and actresses performed a play
about the spring festival. Traditional
Kyrgyz dish sumelek was the most attractive
dish which is cooked with 6 different
ingredients and sprouted wheat, barley
and corn.
THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE CELEBRATING
THE FESTIVAL
Every year, the spring festival is celebrated
in Kazakhstan with great enthusiasm.
This festival is a ‘blessed’ festival for
Kazakh people. This year, a great ceremony
was organized in the capital city
Astana with the participation of thousands
of people. Saryarka Cycling Hall,
with a capacity of 10 thousand people,
hosted President Nursultan Nazarbayev
for celebrating the festival. There were
different shows and activities in the ceremony.
TABLES ARE SET, DISHES ARE SERVED
In Turkmenistan, the spring festival is
known as the Oghuz Bairam, and that
night is the Oghuz night. Throughout the
day, Turkmen people watch folk dance
performances and during the night, everybody
sings songs. Tables are set with
Turkmen pastries, petir, kulce, patties,
sheksheke and Turkmen pilaf. This year,
Turkmenistan enjoyed three days off as
official holiday for the spring festival.
Huge tents were pitched in the plateau
near the Ahal province 20-25 km away
from the capital city Ashgabat and a great
number of people celebrated the day
together in Ahal.
dun dört bir tarafında kutlanan Nevruz
Bayramı dolayısıyla konserler verildi, şenlik
sofraları kuruldu. Türkiye’nin her şehrinde
Nevruz’a dair farklı bir inanış ve söyleyiş
var. Nevruz Giresun’da “mart bozumu” olarak
adlandırılırken Gaziantep’te “Sultan
Nevruz” deniliyor. Edirne’de Nevruz günü
“mart içeri, pire dışarı” denilirken Sivas’ta
ise o gün gök gürlerse ürünün bol olacağına
inanılıyor.
FESTIVAL CELEBRATIONS IN DIFFERENT
CITIES
The spring festival was also celebrated in
Turkey with great enthusiasm. Broad participation
events, concerts and activities
were held throughout Turkey from Iğdır
to Tekirdağ. There are different beliefs
and names for the festival in different cities.
While Giresun calls it “March harvest”,
Gaziantep says “Sultan Newroz”.
Edirne sings “March in, fleas out” and
Sivas believes that harvest will be plenty
if there is thunder on that day.
