proceeds to the dispositional phase of the case.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are a number of dispositional options available to the court following an<br />

adjudication of a child as a child from a Family with Service Needs. <strong>The</strong>se include:<br />

• referring the family for voluntary services<br />

• placing the child under the supervision of a juvenile probation officer,<br />

• referring the child to a pregnancy or STD program, or<br />

• committing the child to DCF for placement in a residential setting but only if such<br />

a placement is found to be the least restrictive alternative.<br />

<strong>The</strong> court may issue written orders, or conditions, that the child must follow which will<br />

include a written warning of the consequences of violating the court’s orders. <strong>The</strong>se<br />

court orders regulate the future conduct of the child and may include attending a<br />

the safety of others. Under the Compact, each state is responsible for the safe return of juveniles who have<br />

run away from home and in doing so, have left their state of residence.<br />
