SUPPORT AND REFLECTION
Teams need a place and a time to think together about the
work. This enables members of a team to develop shared
agreements about their task and values, and a shared model of
the work.It also enables staff members to share with each other
the challenging, difficult aspects of the work, as well as their
successes. Shared decision-making about risk assessment and
management reduces the burden on the individual. It also makes
it more likely that decisions will be made in the long term interests
of the service user, rather than to reduce the anxiety of a team
member. A place and time to think is not a luxury, but a
necessary part of the work. Each service has to develop its own
versions of thinking spaces. Some examples of thinking spaces
include: mindfulness groups; reflective practice groups; work
discussion groups; supervision groups; case discussion forums.
