6.4 Summary <strong>and</strong> Conclusions<br />

One of the most difficult issues involved in the design of WLANs is obtaining good<br />

attenuation data. In a limited range ISM spectrum environment, radio signals are<br />

affected by the type <strong>and</strong> location of office furniture, the location <strong>and</strong> type of construction<br />

materials used for walls <strong>and</strong> floors, <strong>and</strong> by the interference caused by other<br />

radio frequency devices located in their close proximity. This issue is addressed<br />

in Chapter 3, <strong>Wireless</strong> Channel Modeling. Given that this type of data can be obtained,<br />

estimated, or measured, there are several decisions that arise in the design
