Bellamy presented the study to Soliman after UNICEF found the pornography situation in the country through
anecdotes coming from the experience of children who were victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation.
UNICEF cited the role of digital technology in the recruitment of children into prostitution, adding that the growth
of information technology, especially the Internet and digital communication, has paved the way for child
trafficking to proliferate not only in the country but also in the world.
"The Internet is not only a repository for child pornography, it is also a means of exchanging pornographic images
through e-groups and email, UNICEF said in a press statement.
Soliman said that urban areas are "very sex-oriented" due to media advertising.
She said that the DSWD is addressing the situation by giving lectures to the youth, particularly those out-of-school,
on topics such as exploitation, teenage pregnancies, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Acquired Immune
Deficiency Syndrome (HIV-AIDS). They are also conducting parent-effectiveness seminars that also tackle the
issues.
Meanwhile, Soliman said she has interviewed several cybersex workers who were rescued by DSWD.
"They said that they are not doing anything wrong since they are not touched physically, they are only inside
cubicles. It speaks the kind of values that young people are acquiring. They have no respect for their body. They
cannot see the exploitation being done to them. They also claimed that they were 19 years old, but in my eyes, I
think they are only about 16 years old, she said.

Kingston, ON - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police, Child Pornography Section (Project "P"), and Electronic
Crime Section in conjunction with the Kingston Police Service, have charged a 36 year old Kingston man following
a child pornography investigation.
On Monday April 4, 2005, as a result of an ongoing investigation, police executed a Criminal Code search warrant
on a residence. Officers seized four computers, CD Roms, and floppy diskettes. The computer and CD Roms,
contain what is believed to be child pornography.
Charged with one count of possession of child pornography is Trevor Vanrijn of 453 Sharp Court, Kingston,
Ontario. The accused is scheduled to appear April 5, 2005 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston, Ontario. The
investigation is continuing.
