After his release, Bowman will serve three years on probation. He will be required to register as a sex offender and
receive treatment, and is barred from being around children under age 18 without an approved adult supervising.

A 40-year-old man yesterday became the fifth Greek in just over a week to face a prosecutor on charges of
producing pornographic material involving young children and distributing it over the Internet.
The married shipping firm employee had allegedly been selling exceptionally hardcore material involving children
as young as 4 to unidentified clients for the past six years, according to police.
In a raid on the suspects Athens home, officers seized a computer, a digital camera and a large number of CDs and
DVDs allegedly containing child pornography. Police are investigating the possibility that some of the material was
produced in Greece.
The arrest brings to 23 the number of suspects arrested in Greece since January 2004 on charges of distributing child
pornography over the Net.

Rome -- The decision by Vatican officials to have Cardinal Bernard Law preside over a high-profile mourning mass
for Pope John Paul II is the latest example of the chasm that separates how senior Vatican officials view the priest
sex-abuse scandal and the way many U.S. Catholics see it.
While John Paul II and other senior Vatican officials repeatedly condemned child sex abuse by priests and endorsed
U.S. bishops' efforts to combat it, church officials in Rome never saw the revelations as the kind of confidenceshattering,
life-changing event that many in the United States did.
Some senior church officials -- including Honduran Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez, who is considered a strong
papal candidate -- continually suggested that the scandal was a creation of the U.S. news media.
"We all know that Ted Turner is openly anti-Catholic, and he is the owner not just of CNN but of Time Warner,"
Rodriguez said inaccurately in May 2002, in a broadside criticizing the former CNN chairman and U.S. news
outlets. Turner sold his cable networks, including CNN, to Time Warner in 1996. He became the company's vice
chairman, a title he retained after AOL and Time Warner merged in 2000.
Rodriguez suggested the church has been persecuted because of its pro-Palestinian outlook. Rodriguez continues to
stand by his remarks.
Such comments led many in the United States to wonder whether the Vatican grasped the nature of the scandal --
that it went beyond the problem of child sex abuse to an institutional cover-up.
Now with the church about to pick a new pope, the tapping of Law to preside over Monday's mass, one of nine
during the official period of papal mourning that follows the funeral, underscored how wide that gap is between the
Vatican and U.S. Catholics on the sex-abuse scandal.
The priest-abuse scandal "never cut so deeply and so personally in Rome as it did in the U.S., and especially in
