Internet Safety Group says existing anti-paedophile laws should be enforced more vigorouslyThe Internet Safety
Group says there is a lot that can be done to stop paedophiles before grooming legislation is invoked.The
Government has announced it will add an offence of sexual grooming (setting a child up, for sexual activity) to the
upcoming Crimes Amendment Bill.Internet Safety Group director Liz Butterfield is welcoming the move, but she
says the existing law could be enforced more vigorously, with measures such as charging people for sending
obscene messages under the Telecommunications Act.She adds that sending age-restricted or illegal material
already carries stiff penalties.Paedophiles who groom children for sex will face up to seven years in prison under the
new law.The bill comes before Parliament in the next few weeks.

In January 2003, a Toronto Police detective sent an e-mail to Microsoft Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill
Gates asking for help in the fight against child exploitation. Development of the CETS system began in 2003 and
involved the Toronto Police Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) and other global law enforcement bodies. CETS is a Microsoft-developed, securityenhanced
database that works with existing offender tracking systems in various global jurisdictions to allow
investigators to tap into the data and make connections that help them more effectively track, locate and ultimately
arrest offenders. CETS is based on Microsoft Windows and Microsoft SQL, though according to Microsoft Canada
President David Hemler the system won't force authorities to migrate to Windows and/or other Microsoft products.
"One of the key design point we had is that we had great collaboration from the department of Homeland Security
early on in our process up here to give us input into how they could use and how they might use it and how it might
be applicable in the U.S.," Hemler said.

A Nutley man who has admitted to sexually assaulting nine children, including at least two he videotaped during sex
acts in the basement of a church, pleaded guilty yesterday to federal pedophilia charges. Kevin Hildreth, 35,
pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Newark to crossing state lines to sexually assault a child and to possession of
child pornography, part of what authorities say was his nearly two decades of preying on young children. The
Essex County Prosecutor's Office charged Hildreth in October with having sex with five of the boys between 1989
and 2004, saying in a press release that some of the offenses took place while he was supervising children for
Wesley United Methodist Church in Belleville. Ken Hall, 47, who lives next door, remembers nothing unusual
about the family, except that Hildreth was frequently in the company of young boys. The family suspected nothing
until Nutley police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents came to the home on June 9, 2004, and
