the old courthouse. Jess Jazey-<br />

Spoelstra’s sophisticated design<br />

sensibility is reflected in the stylish and relaxed interior. The colour scheme is warm and<br />

friendly, and the textural elements are glass, leather and linen. The dining room features<br />

an attractive curved bar at the entrance with faux white leather stools. The walls are lined<br />

with beautiful photos that pay homage to the owners’ days in New York City.<br />

MENU HIGHLIGHTS<br />

At lunch, Chef’s features include handmade gnocchi and ravioli. The Seafood Crêpe<br />

is stuffed with crab, shrimp and baby scallops in a cognac cream<br />

sauce. Deli sandwiches are accompanied by a spectacularly<br />

composed signature side salad. The Pastrami Reuben sandwich<br />

is essential New York deli, with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut,<br />

Russian dressing and crispy dills. Feature Arancini Balls — that<br />

change daily — are served with greens, soup or hand-cut fries.<br />

The Yorkie Beef Dip with shaved rib-eye and tenderloin on<br />

house-made Yorkshire pudding with au jus has quickly become a signature dish.<br />

Über-Pastry-Chef Michele Lenhardt<br />

brings dessert offerings to a whole new<br />

level. Decadent Chocolate Cake with<br />

fudge frosting and Carrot Cake with<br />

cream cheese icing are classics, as is her<br />

made-to-order Apple Fritters with salted<br />

caramel sauce and the River Room’s<br />

signature Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée.<br />

The River Room has over a dozen dishes<br />

on the Brunch prix fixe menu ($25), including<br />

sublime Huevos Rancheros with two<br />

fried eggs atop crispy corn tortillas with<br />

Monterey jack cheese, black beans, pico<br />

de gallo and served with sour cream, and<br />

a classic Cobb Salad with grilled chicken,<br />

bacon, blue cheese, hard-boiled egg and<br />

chopped tomato & cucumbers.<br />
