Community-focused, local, sustainable
and responsible are the key
words to describe THE ROOT
CELLAR, an organic café, bakery and
juice bar in London’s Old East Village.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner, the
commitment to a quality experience
is evident in every delicious bite.
THE SCENE
Arched exposed brickwork, a tin ceiling, myriad
rustic lighting fixtures and even an old sign
discovered while renovations were underway
and incorporated into the front of the butcher
block bar create an earthy, creative vibe.
MENU HIGHLIGHTS
The culinary team is led by Chef Dani Murphy and the kitchen’s
repertoire of “from scratch” seasonal menu offerings — with everchanging
daily specials listed on a colourful array of blackboards
— are all organic (with minor exceptions). 80% of the food is
procured locally, grown and produced within a 45-minute radius of
London. The housemade artisan baked goods are made from locally sourced and
organic grains.
If you are looking for a sustainable Water Buffalo Burger, a tasty vegan
Shepherd’s Pie, or some Kale and Potato Samosas, you have come to the right
place. Pair that with one of The Root Cellar’s healthy Smoothies that don’t sacrifice
great taste, like the Willy Wonka, with housemade chocolate sauce, peanut butter,
banana and vanilla almond milk. Daily breakfast omelettes, soup of the day,
sandwich specials and salad bowls are listed on The Root Cellar’s Facebook page.
This is also the home of the London Brewing Co-op, adding “plough-to-pint” to
the Café’s “farm-to-table” approach. Sample from an eclectic range of
original beers, hand-crafted in small batch brewing, including lighter
amber ales and robust stouts and porters. A VQA wine list is also
available for lovers of the grape.
