2.2 Science and practical significance of the study As the annual report of 2006 said Haldex Company includes four parts, which are Commercial Vehicle Systems, Hydraulis Systems, Garphyttan Wire, and Traction Systems. From the annual report for the Commercial Vehicle Systems the operations are divided into five business units: Actuators, Air Management, Brake Controls, Foundation Brake and Friction Products. Aftermarket sales count for nearly half of sales. Commercial Vehicle Systems shares sixty percent of group sales (SEK 4,765 Million to SEK 7,890 Million) (Haldex, 2007). So the Commercial Vehicle Systems deviation acts an important role in the company. Disc brakes are one of the main products in Commercial Vehicle System deviation. Moreover, ADB is the development trend of disc break, which defines its important role. It is necessary to go deep into the research of ADB production line. Extend software is wildly applied in simulation. Till now Extend Simulation shows positive effect around production logistics, supply chain management, business flow, medical service, transports, quality control, etc (EdgeStone, viewed 2008). For the part of analysis problems exist in assembly line, the Extend Simulation will be used in this research. By optimizing the simulation model find out the methods to improve the assembly line to achieve the requirements of market. The inventory problem will be discussed depending on the data gathered currently and some theoretic proposals will be given afterwards. With the suggestions, the company is able to find a feasible and economical way to solve problems. 2.3 Research methodology In this paper, for the problem of assembly line, the main method is modeling. At the beginning, in order to make constrains of the production prominent, an ideal simplified model is set up based on the current component of the assembly line. Then according to the real situation, bottlenecks and constrains in critical stations are added in to the model. There are various parameters for different distributions and the values of parameters have to be gained. So the statistic data analysis is done before setting up the real simplified model. For this step includes two phases: primary analysis will be use the Microsoft Excel software and the further data analysis will be use the professional statistic analysis software SPSS. After testing, modifications are applied to smooth the model. Different models are set up to simulate from different optimizing methods. Simulations results aimed at reaching the required production volume come out afterwards. Then take cost, reliability, and lead time as parameters to compare suggestions. As soon as the production volume is able to increase and satisfied the requirement of market, the inventory issue is brought to the front. For the inventory problem there are two aspects to be discussed. One is from the point of suppliers and the other is from 8
the customers. Both of them are primary roles in the supply chain. In this paper the supplier selection will base on the general rules as well as associate with the inventory problem. The inventory reduction methods of the finished products will be stated together with the optimization of delivery to customers. In like wise, the proposals are evaluated from multiple criteria. Depending on the analysis and discussion, feasible and economic approaches for the company to optimize assembly lines and reduce inventory will be found. 9
