Improvement of Material Flow in the Production and Supply Chain of ADB Products Jie Jiang & Yuran Zhu Dept. of Industrial production, Royal Institute of Technology SE-100 44 Stockholm, Sweden ABSTRACT With economic globalization and the advent of the knowledge-based economy era, as well as the emergence of global manufacturing, supply chain management in the manufacturing sector have universal application. Material flow throughout the supply chain, the merits and demerits of the material flow in the supply chain is vital impact. Based on the investigation in the factory there are two main problems when produce the ADB (Air Disc Brake) in Haldex, AB. Because the rapid growth of market demand the first challenge is production volume of the present assembly line can not satisfy the market demand. Another problem is when the production volume of ADB increased the inventory space is too small to store the productions. The objectives of the research include improving the current production capacity and readapting the relationships with suppliers and customers to achieve the increasing market demand in the coming future. And discuss the inventory problem associate with the suppliers and customers. The paper begins with the research inside the production line. First of all gather data from the practical production line of ADB in Landskrona. Then analyze the data by statistical method. Depending on the results of data analysis, a model has been developed to simulate the production line. By simulating and analyzing, a bunch of methods in improving the production volume have been proposed and an appropriate proposal is concluded after comparisons according to cost, reliability and lead time. As soon as the productivity is able to reach the market, researches in supply chain is taking place from suppliers’ aspect, inventory and delivery. Current suppliers are evaluated based on multiple criteria, such as quality, delivery, cost, co-design capability, and so on. Considering the forecast of market and integrated a number of factors advices are given for the supplier selections in the future. At last, current inventory and delivery statues are stated and corresponding improvement with the increasing production volume are calculated to reduce the inventory and optimize the delivery. Meanwhile, theoretical advices are given to deal with the package and delivery problem due to unpredictable situation of the future market. i
