Ste<strong>in</strong>STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - WILLOWBROOK - The College of Staten Island, <strong>in</strong> partnership with <strong>the</strong> CityUniversity of New York (CUNY), has been work<strong>in</strong>g to give a little back. Literally.For <strong>the</strong> 27th year, <strong>the</strong> CUNY Campaign for Voluntary Charitable Giv<strong>in</strong>g is work<strong>in</strong>g to raise money for dozensof charities citywide and across <strong>the</strong> world.Employees of <strong>the</strong> city's colleges and universities are urged to donate from <strong>the</strong>ir paychecks to over 1,200agencies.The Pledge Form and Campaign Brochure can be found onl<strong>in</strong>e at www.csitoday.com/cuny-campaign, or <strong>the</strong>ycan be mailed out by Susan Been upon request to <strong>in</strong>terested contributors.Checks are made payable to The CUNY Campaign as noted on <strong>the</strong> pledge form.Accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>in</strong>formation posted by <strong>the</strong> Willowbrook-based school on its Web site, <strong>the</strong> CUNY Campaignprovides assistance to <strong>the</strong> homeless, home-bound senior citizens, teens struggl<strong>in</strong>g to complete high school,and o<strong>the</strong>rs who are fac<strong>in</strong>g economic and social challenges.CUNY's goal is to enrich social and recreational programs for youth; promote self-sufficiency <strong>in</strong> educationand job tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g; provide for child care and family service programs, and to help o<strong>the</strong>rs obta<strong>in</strong> food, cloth<strong>in</strong>g,shelter and f<strong>in</strong>ancial assistance.Last year, <strong>the</strong> campaign brought <strong>in</strong> $648,658 from almost 3,000 donors; $245,000 of <strong>the</strong> money raisedwent to college-based agencies, which support valuable programs <strong>in</strong> CUNY, such as scholarship funds andcampus child development centers.<strong>CSI</strong> contributed $12,539 of that amount."Every year <strong>the</strong> CUNY Campaign, conducted <strong>in</strong> conjunction with <strong>the</strong> United Way and o<strong>the</strong>r communityagencies, helps thousands of friends and neighbors across <strong>the</strong> city access a range of much-needed services,"said CUNY Chancellor Mat<strong>the</strong>w Goldste<strong>in</strong>, <strong>in</strong> a message directed toward <strong>the</strong> 23 colleges and <strong>in</strong>stitutions runPage 122 of 157
